A grand opening ceremony will take place that Thursday\, from 8:45 to 9 a.m. at the store\, 1200 Fourth St. N.W.\, just off River Road next to Kmart. Puyallup Mayor Don Malloy will join Goodwill Board of Directors President Bob Bruback and CEO Terry A. Hayes to celebrate the event. After the ceremony\, the store will open to the public. "There are lots of benefits of having a Goodwill store in the community\," said Bruback. "Besides great prices\, jobs and a place to donate gently used clothes\, there is the support for our mission to help people\, especially youth\, reach their goals." Students from Walker High School's leadership team\, with principal Michelle Cruckshank\, will be on hand to help shoppers with carts and doughnuts. It's an example of the local support Goodwill stores generate\, Bruback said. During the grand opening weekend\, Oct. 29-Nov. 1\, shoppers will have the opportunity to win a DVD player\, iPod nano and $50 gas cards daily throughout the event. Other\, free giveaways will also be available at the store. On Oct. 29 only\, there will be a new mattress truckload sale\, while supplies last. The sale includes a free frame   valued up to $49   with each mattress purchase. Sale prices start at $199 for a Twin set\, $249 for a Full set\, $299 for a Queen set\, and $399 for King set.    On Friday\, Oct. 30\, radio station KMPS 94.1-FM\, featuring "Today's Country\," will broadcast live from the store from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the Stubbs show. CEO Terry A. Hayes noted about 35 people\, from the store manager to supervisors\, cashiers and production clerks and donation attendants\, were hired for the store. The payroll exceeds a half-million dollars\, along with health insurance and other benefits.  "Goodwill provides a great opportunity for people seeking that first job or that second chance\," she said. "Goodwill's retail stores also are utilized as part of Goodwill's job training and placement programs." Hayes thanked architects BCRA\, contractor Mountain Construction\; and MK Properties\, the landlord. The Puyallup store is 17\,000 square feet in size and formerly a cinema. Rhonda Rhoades will be the store manager. Rhoades was born in Puyallup and has been with Goodwill for more than 20 years\, starting as a cashier at the Puyallup/South Hill Goodwill Store. Her previous position was as store manager of the 38th Street Goodwill Store in Tacoma. The store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.\, Monday through Saturday\, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
