Ms. McCarthy is a consensus-builder who wants the county to overcome challenges and thrive. \;Her priorities include improving the region&rsquo\;s transportation systems\, retaining businesses and attracting new ones\, making county government more efficient and transparent\, and planning for livable communities with safe streets\, qualityparks\, clean air and a stable infrastructure. She is excited about opportunities forthe county\, including lanning for the 2010 US Amateur and the 2015 US Open championships at Chambers Bay\, which will produce a huge economic benefitfor the entire region. \;Pat has been in public service nearly all her adult life. She started out as an advocate for rape victims. She later served on the Tacoma School Board for 12years and as County Auditor for six years.
On a personal note\, Pat has lived here since 1975. She moved to Tacoma with her husband John\, a Bellarmine grad and now a Superior Court judge. Pat and John have four adult children and three grandchildren. They are the reason Pat wants to make Pierce County an even better place to live\, work and play.
